This stunning piece of kimono fabric has been carefully unpicked from a antique kimono. The beautiful and large flowers are bordered by curving stripes of a rich purple magenta. The background colour is hard to capture due to the fabric which is shot and is infused with grey-ish light blue and a pinky lilac.

The fabric is a pre-WW2 meisen silk. Meisen, also know is ikat, is a technique where the threads are dyed with the intended design before they are woven, the resulting look is slightly blurry.

Width - 37 cm (14 inches*)
Length - 140 cm (55 inches*)
Fabric - Meisen Silk
Condition - Good with a few small pulls in the material.

All my kimono fabrics are handpicked by myself at Japanese antique markets. I choose kimonos that due to some imperfection of age can no longer be worn and is now ready to be lovingly remade and given a second life. As the fabric has come from an old kimono there will be small pinholes near the edges. I try to detail any flaws on the fabric as much as I can above.

This fabric would be great in any textile art or craft including patchwork, quilting, bag or doll making. Be inspired by this gorgeous, authentic Japanese fabric.
