Rare US Army WWII Signal Corps Fingerprint Camera: Unique and Beautiful Collectible
Vintage from the 1940s
Offered here is a rare US Army WWII Signal Corps Fingerprint Camera. This is a very unique vintage item that is in excellent condition and looks beautiful. The body shows little to no signs of wear, the lens glass looks clear, and the box as well as the 6 cut film holders and the film pack adapter are all in great condition.
This is one of the rarer military cameras from the WWII era. Judging from the condition of its black enamel finish and freshness of the brass battery contacts, it was probably never put into use. It uses the 2-1/4 X 3-1/4 film format which made the camera smaller and more easily transportable. The spring back has the fold-out light hood with ground glass for composing the shot, if necessary. Usually the camera was simply held against the surface which had the dusted fingerprint. The photographer selected the appropriate aperture, f/6.3 or f/11 and the shutter operation, Bulb or Time for the needed exposure. When the shutter lever opened, uncapping the lens, the four small light bulbs briefly illuminated the fingerprint during the exposure. The lens is a color coated 72mm f/6.3 Wollensak Raptar. The power for the lights which are hidden just inside the front opening of the camera is from batteries held under hinged lids on each side of the rear end of the camera. This camera is scarcely found in this condition, particularly with the Signal Corps markings. Why not make this impressive and unique camera yours today?

This little camera is amazing! Mom had a vintage Ansco box camera and my small collection began with hers. Seller packaged with camera in its pristine leather case along with its flash outfit as well as original booklet, all bubble wrapped within its leatherette original sales case which was, too, packaged in bubble wrap and in exactly the right sized shipping box so it could not move! The camera itself is unique as described and as I researched a rare find and is of a great material and color! It is unique and a great addition to my collection! I am thrilled to have it now!
I was disappointed after receiving this item b/c there were some dust smears visible through the viewfinder. This is the camera I used to learn photography. It was Nikon's beginner's SLR sold '82-'86. I tested this with 6 different film types noting the camera functioned well and smudging did not impact the images. my old one went out. I used it pretty heavy 2 years. Sparingly after. Stopped taking a battery charge. This is not the Nikon that lasts a lifetime and does not approach the quality of intermediate Nikons at the time and was priced about $150 in '84. Good: it is very light & compact. Has programmed, AP & manual modes. I bought this to replace an old gift. Bad: It is full of plastic parts and potential problems that won't be worth fixing. It's a learner and is good for that but don't expect years of continual use.
Item arrived within a very good time, less then a week! Item matched the description perfectly, was packaged very well and even a handwritten thank you on the reciept of purchase which i thought was thoughtful and kind to take the time to do so, if in the future this place is selling something of the same manor and in the same price range and quality i was looking, I would defenitely choose them first! Absolutely 100% satisfied customer!!and i dont about others but speaking for someone who has ordered MANY items online and have dealt with plenty of HORRIBLE stores and just lies and recieving thi gs that in NOWAY shape or form was qhat was pictured and described, it was soooo nice getting exactly what i expected and deserved and in an amazing time and care..again just 100% satisfied, thank you again!!
Had an issue when I received this camera. I promptly contacted Jeff and we made plans to exchange. He honors his exchange policy and I am so happy for it. I have since sent over 100 shots through the camera and it has worked flawlessly. Very happy, thank you
