Description

Fossilized ammonite, silver owl frames; French wire earhooks..

NOTICE: It takes me a few days to make these and be certain they're secure before they're sent to you, so please be patient. But don't wait! to order -- these sell quickly locally as well as on line.
If you need them for something special let me know and I'll prioritize, but that's the best I can do for the moment.

APRIL 2017: Finally, more ammonites! I'm hoping there will be enough for spring and summer shows, local sales, and etsy, but it's never predictable, so if you want a pair don't wait.

Fascinating, simple, pretty. Fibonacci spiral totally visible.

Although the colors will be mostly browns. I've posted all these just to give you a sense of how varied ammonites can be. I'll pick a pair out for you (or make a pair) when you order, but if you have a strong preference for lighter or darker, or a mixture, send a convo and we'll do our best with what's in stock.
The last photo is of a pair in our original bronze frames, just to give you a size gauge. The bronze-framed owl earrings are also
available on The Creative Block, as are some non-owls with a new steampunk design and some with stones, beads, or crystals.

As I think you can see from the photos, ammonites, while they are obviously the same species, are as different as fingerprints. This is partly just how things are, but also, since they are fossils, dependent on how old they are, the conditions under which they were fossilized, and the degree of skill in cutting, polishing, etc. once they've been chosen to become jewelry.

Ammonites were not really a nautilus, but a different cephalopod with the same spiral shell ratio. They no longer exist except as fossils. For more info, check out my blog, http://ThoseBlueRememberedHills.blogspot.com

I am also listing some dragon and ammonite earrings (you can see the process on my blog, http://ThoseBlueRememberedHills.blogspot.com if you're interested. So far I've made only a few pairs --they're more complicated & use slightly smaller ammonites than these -- so if you want them, order now. UPDATE, May 1, 2016 New version of the dragons -- a bit bigger, but I think much prettier, And Nov.19, some GORGEOUS new small ammonites for the dragons -- see The Creative Block on FB for some show pics until I get them up here.

These earrings should be fine under normal wearing conditions. I would, however, keep them outside of car shoulder belts and water, and away from animals and small children.

Thanks for joining us on The Creative Block. We’re happy to see you shopping or just browsing here any time, hope you’ve found something you love and/or gotten new ideas, and would love to have you fan our Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-CreativeBlock/285869766151?v=wall&ref=mf

Payments

Secure options
  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
We accept paypal, credit cards, and personal checks. Paypal or a card will get your stuff there faster, since items paid by check aren't mailed until the check arrives and clears.
We normally ship by first class mail with a tracking number once a week, sometimes more often, as soon as possible after orders are paid for and packaged, but because of our location there may be a few days' delay in getting to the P.O., especially in stormy weather. We also insure all items over $50- in the US, but can't track or insure packages going to most international destinations.

Returns & exchanges

If your item arrives broken or damaged, I will refund the price, including shipping & handling, when it is returned or when you send me a photo clearly showing the damage. You can also return the item to be repaired or replaced, or, if it cost $50- or more, collect the insurance from the PO.

I will also give store credit for returns for any other reason as long as you let me know immediately that the item won't work for you and return it promptly--within 10 days in the US, and a negotiated time from other countries. You pay shipping and of course it needs to arrive in the condition in which it left the shop.

Shipping policies

PLEASE READ BEFORE ASKING ME TO REDUCE SHIPPING AND HANDLING!!
I've been asked recently by a couple of new customers interested in buying one item whether I would lower my first item shipping costs for them. The answer is no--it wouldn't be fair to my other customers, especially those buying more and/or repeatedly, and it would be a loss to me.

Here's the deal with shipping: the first item charge covers packing materials, my cost for getting the packing materials, going to the PO--gas, oil, wear & tear on my car, and time.

April 2016 I AM VERY SORRY TO HAVE TO RAISE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING COSTS.
I took a 1/2 oz package to the PO this week and they charged almost $10- more than I'd paid previously! I'm keeping it as low as I can by sourcing less expensive (but still sturdy) packaging, etc., but I can't control the PO!
I will try to sort out rates for different countries-- they are listed in numbered categories-- & reduce for those not at the higher end, but I just ate $9- in shipping on a tiny package & can't afford to keep doing that. If you think your country is less expensive and I haven't redone this, ask me & I'll check and change if possible.

Additional items are much less because all of that except the actual cost of packing materials, additional postage, and a little bit of time is already covered.

I could build some of this into my prices, as many sellers do to make S&H lower, but I choose to keep my prices low and make S&H realistic and much cheaper for additional items--if I built it into the price it would cost more for each purchase rather than just the first one.

Most etsy teams have themes, specials, and extra attractions. I'm not always on top of these, but will try to keep you updated here and/or on our Facebook page, The Creative Block.
