“Polynesien (Inselwelt) oder der fünfte Welttheil”

A chart of the Pacific Ocean published in Vienna, Austria 1789, showing Australia, New Zealand etc. An Austrian version of a map originally issued by Daniel Djurberg in Stockholm, Sweden, 1780.

The chart shows the routes of famous explorers:

- Captain James Cook
- Abel Tasman
- Samuel Wallis
- John Byron
- Louis-Antoine de Bougainville
- Jacques Le Maire
- Pedro Fernandes de Queirós

This chart was produced before Australia was named (the Maori name, Ulimaroa, is shown) and before Tasmania (Diemens Land) was identified as an island! Roggeveen’s Easter Island is shown in the inset and the Sandwich Islands (now Hawaii) are shown top right, next to the cartouche.

This listing is for a very detailed DIGITAL image, suitable for printing and framing, taken from an original chart. Some defects present on the original, such as marks, creases or folds, may still be visible. This is public domain material that was never copyrighted.

The JPG image will be supplied as Instant Digital Download. Immediately your order is placed you will be given a PDF file containing a link to download the image.

Print at home, or have it printed professionally at your local print shop.

No print will be shipped to you
