Fabulous mid century bank designed by Bennington VT potter David Gil, circa 1960s. The lion bank is one of a collection of banks designed in the 60s and is rarer than the hippo bank that is more often seen. It has a fabulous stylized mane and sweet but regal expression and features an earthy saturated mustard yellow glaze. It is in excellent condition, with just one tiny chip on the rim of the coin hole (which we've taken into consideration when pricing this). It measures about 12" long x 5" high and is marked Bennington Potters, Vt *1656
