Coin necklace stamped UN PESO Republica De Guatemala.
The other side stamped 1894.
It has birds, and feathers arranged symmetrically. Along the bottom a row of six little coins in crude, barely distinguishable relief pictures.
When I discovered this medallion, it had no chain or dangles.
I have attached a ethnic looking chain which has metal and glass hearts attached.
On the bottom of the medallion, I have hung three Spanish Milagros "Miracle" Charms.
These little charms are said to have spiritual powers and give the wearer a feeling of well-being.
I chose them because I liked the way they looked, and kept with the ethnic feel and symbolism of this piece.
The charm on the left looks to me a representation of a turnip or beet. Could it mean a plentiful harvest, or good food?
The middle is a heart, which is probably for good health of your heart, veins, blood, or perhaps to ease the pain of a broken heart?
The last is a figure praying, a symbol of spirituality.
The chain is about 30 inches, end to end, although it is one continuous loop to slip over the head.
The medallion is 2 3/4 wide and 4 inches long including the ornamentation and charms.
