Shibori is a very highly valued tie dying technique first invented by the Japanese. This type of pattern is made by tying small knots around a little tiny bit of the fabric all in these lined up perfect lines. A painstaking process, to be sure. I can't even comprehend the time it must take to do this to a whole bolt of fabric. The bolts are around 11 yards long. I think I would go stark raving mad.

This haori is mostly black silk with a design woven into it and with white and pink cherry blossoms in shibori. Beautiful contrast on the black. Excellent condition.

It is fully lined with the same fabric and a lighter weight silk at the top . This lining fabric is beautiful in itself.

This one is just about 34 inches from the neck to the hem and 23 inches from side seam to side seam. I;m 5'8" and it comes to about an inch above my knee.

Japanese clothing is made one size fits all. Now, one size fits all is probably not the same in Japan as it would be in the north America or Europe. I have tried these on and they fit me in the arms and across the chest, but I'm a bit too curvy below the waist to wear them. I'm a size 18 and 5'8". This coat comes to about mid thigh. It's quite comfortable across the bust. And that's a 38C bust. ;-)

This garment is exquisitely made. It is all sewn by hand.

I have been buying kimonos from Japan and dismantling them for the fabric, but I get some sometimes that are in such perfect condition that I can't muster the courage to dismantle them. So I'm going to see if I sell it intact first.

From a now and forever smoke free, cat free household. I get these items from Japan and I have no knowledge of where or how they were stored, however. Sometimes they smell a little moth ballie as they have been stored. I take them out and air them for a few days. I have a dog, Bungee, but he's not allowed to handle the Kimonos.;-)
