This is a copy of the giant foot, needlefelted out of Shetland wool in the colour blaand which approximates the colour and markings of marble. It is felted around a nice smooth stone from the river Elbe to give it weight. It is about the same size as an adult foot size 4 or 5, but very wide! Classical statues always seem to have very chubby feet, maybe because Greek and Roman footwear was designed to be functional and comfortable, rather than to squeeze feet into an unlikely shape, like ours.
Needle felting is a process of moulding unspun wool by stabbing it repeatedly with a barbed needle. This foot is tightly felted but excessive handling will loosen hairs.
This would make a good gift for a classicist, a historically minded christian, an archaeologist, an art historian, a podiatrist or a foot fetishist.
It will be sent by registered mail.
