Made from mostly new materials, this 2X (wms size 18-20) tunic is made from a new tank tee, hand tie dyed and painted with hearts. The attached 'skirt' made from new and upcycled fabrics (cotton, polyester, rayon, and gauze) skims over the hips and looks great with jeans, shorts, skirts, or leggings. Machine wash warm separately or with like colors the first few times, tumble dry.

I got laid off in the summer of 2011, and let's face it, there's not much hope for laid off program managers, is there? But I'm a creative, over fifty hippie/punk that has an endless compulsion to make things, write, play music, and look different on the cheap, so I started looking around to see what I could do with my compulsion to make things and maybe make money.

So now I go to thrift shops and fabric stores looking for likely materials--garments that don't look worn or cheap, made of good quality fabrics in prints, solids, and stripes. Sometimes I order 'blanks', or ready-made prepared for dyeing pieces (usually for the plus sizes or for HEMP, stuff that doesn't seem to show up in thrift stores). I have a huge stash of fabric art paints and paint additives that kick up the colors with metallic glitz.

When I get home everything goes in the washer then the dryer so you will have no unpleasant surprises when you wash one of my creations. Then I lay all the clean clothes and preshrunk fabrics out so I can make piles of colors and prints that look like they should get together to make a new piece. Each piece gets something special--either painted here and there, or appliqued, or ruffles, or buttons, or SOMETHING to set them apart and make them interesting and unique.

I don't charge shipping because I HATE paying shipping when shopping online. Just price the stuff shipped already like Zappos or Simply Be, I thought, and voila, through the magic of Etsy, you get free shipping (in the USA)! I set my prices according the materials and effort put into each piece and keep the prices in a working girl's price range.

Here in Ecotopic, you are getting a genuine HempPatch garment (even though somebody else on Etsy is using my label name) and all of my clothing bears that label, as well as washing instruction labels. I have been selling clothing under that name with satisfaction guaranteed since 1999, and own the URL <HempPatch.com>. That’s about as close to a trademark as this working girl could get without hiring a patent lawyer.
