Sterling Silver Care (Storing Sterling Silver)

Proper storage of sterling silver jewelry could help preserve its shine and prevent the oxidation that can cause dullness and discoloration. We suggest storing sterling silver jewelry in a small, airtight ziplock bag in a dry cool place. Avoid keeping jewelry boxes in the bathroom, as the moist warm air can compromise the brilliance of your sterling silver. If you are planning on storing your silver jewelry for a long period of time, it is good idea to thoroughly clean it before storing it.

Sterling Silver Care (Cleaning Sterling Silver). Sterling silver requires proper care and cleaning to maintain its initial luster and brilliance.

Over time, dirt, makeup residue, and skin oils can build up on the surface of your sterling jewelry and cause the metal to become dull and cloudy. So, regularly cleaning your pieces can help prevent this undesirable effect. We recommend using a sterling silver polishing cloth as it is pre-treated with gentle chemicals to restore silver’s shine and brilliance. Regular use of chemical liquid jewelry cleaners is discouraged. For silver that has suffered from some degree of tarnishing, you can add a small amount of mild detergent or SILVER CARE POLISH from BLITZ to the piece, and then use a damp soft cloth, or your fingers, to rub it into the surface of the metal and then rinse it off. Avoid scrubbing the silver with any type of brush.

Plated Jewelry Care (PART 1). Plating is a process where a thin layer of gold, or rose gold is placed on the surface of another metal. Anything plated will eventually tarnish and fade with time and wear.

Plated items are NOT SOLID GOLD, or ROSE GOLD. To maximize its lifespan, extra care should be taken. DO NOT spray perfume or other sprays while wearing your plated jewelry. Wear your jewelry after you have sprayed. When using lotion or cream, wait until your lotion or cream is dry or has been absorbed by the skin before you wear your plated jewelry.Sweat will cause plated jewelry to tarnish, so make sure to remove plated jewelry before exercise, and also when swimming. Substances like oil, nail polish, nail polish remover, chlorine, and perfume may react with plated jewelry and will cause it to tarnish.

Plated Jewelry Care (PART 2)

DO NOT clean plated jewelry with jewelry cleaners or antibacterial soaps which may have certain components that will make plated jewelry tarnish more quickly. If your plated jewelry needs more cleaning, you may clean it with warm, soapy water. After each use of plated jewelry, clean it with a cotton ball or a very soft cloth, DO NOT use a polishing cloth as this will strip away the plating. Store plated jewelry in a small zip-lock bag separate from other types of jewelry. DO NOT store gold plated, silver plated, or rose gold plated together. The different metals will cause each other to tarnish. REMOVE plated ring before shower and cleaning dishes.
