Pretty little Art Deco sterling pin with a delicately executed pierced bell flower and leaf frame surrounding a vibrant slice of abalone shell. The iridescent colors flash green, turquoise, pink, lavender, and silver. The colors are dichroic, meaning they change when held at different angles (hard to capture this quality in photos). It is in excellent vintage condition (a tiny bit of paint on the reverse was carefully removed), and has a secure rollover clasp. Marked “Hoffman Sterling” on the back.

Frederick S. Hoffman Co., New York, NY, made jewelry in the 1930’s and 40’s, and was also known for its butterfly wing and sterling silver jewelry. This is a lovely example of the fine craftsmanship of the time, c. 1930’s.

SIZE: 1-5/8”W x 7/8”H; .246 oz.
