Barred Bandicoots are one of the more visible Australian animals in suburban gardens as they love to snoot around for worms in freshly rained on lawns. They are nocturnal as most of Tasmania's and Australia's native animals are.

Due to their liking for lawns they come into contact more frequently with domestic pets than do many of our other little animals, and consequently a significant reason for the reduction in their numbers is due to being killed by cats and dogs. People are now more aware and try to keep their pets indoors, especially at the time of night Bandicoots are active.

A new glaze makes this animal slightly greyer in tone than the one pictured, a more realistic rendition of the actual colour.

The Bandicoot is slip-cast using a porcelaineous stoneware, hand finished and measures 8cm long x 4cm high.

"If you could snoot like a Bandicoot,
oh, the delicacies you would uncover from the forest floor!
Worms and bugs and berries and roots,
One big smorgasbord, if you posses a long enough nose to probe,
the leaf mould heaped through time,
and if you had white markings rare, not many left anywhere."

Miniature animals; Barred Bandicoots; cute little Australian animals; ceramic sculpture; clay animals.
