This pair of wooden recipe boxes came out of the same kitchen, in a ca. 1950's-era cape on the Connecticut / Rhode Island border. The boxes show the expected scratches, scuffs, cracks, repairs, dings, and other wear associated with a long life of use in the kitchen. I find dates on the recipes inside from 1953 through about 1983. There are a variety of newspaper clippings, typed recipes, and handwritten recipes as well as stray bits of ephemera (including Betty Crocker's obituary.) There are also a number of blank cards, especially in the larger box. Many of the cards and clippings show expected signs of use and age, including yellowing, spots, and creasing.

The recipes themselves run the gamut from the timeless (brownies, filled cookies & biscuits) to the ephemeral (lime jello salad with pears, "hot condiment casserole.") The one-dish and casserole dishes alone cover everything from "no peek" and potato puff recipes all the way through to lobster casserole. There is so much here -- including a few funny surprises -- for the researcher, home cook, collage artist or simple lover of things old and interesting.

These boxes will be well-wrapped and shipped to you via USPS.
