Inspired by natural forms and colors, this handcrafted white stoneware cookie jar is made on the potter's wheel, and is high fired to 2350 degrees f. in a soda atmosphere. Gazed on the inside with an easy to clean semi-matte glaze, and on the outside with a mint to glossy white gaze that then goes to deep toasted brown and soda flashed to a toasty almost coppery color on the lower body. Color changes are due to the path of the soda vapor and flame.

Jar stands about 10" h and is roughly 9" w.

Food, microwave, and dishwasher safe

Soda firing is a dramatic process similar to salt glazing, but minus the harmful pollutants. Soda firing uses sodium bicarbonate and/or soda ash introduced into the kiln at peak temperature. The soda swirls unpredictably in the kiln, changing the glazes in wonderful and often surprising ways.

NOTE: the bottoms of soda fired pots are lifted on wads of clay to protect them from sticking to the kiln shelves. These wads leave white marks on the feet of pots. Additionally, soda may bubble up from the shelf further scarring the bottom. All marks are carefully scraped down and sanded smooth to protect your furniture.
