I was visiting my friend Vaughn at his horse ranch in Kentucky when I spotted this purse. Vaughn and I were sipping our bourbon (neat) on the steps, under the cool of the trees, when his cousin Vanessa made her appearance. She had this presence--long black hair, emerald eyes, pale white skin (she looks nothing like Vaughn who tends toward portliness), and she also had this purse. She had it tucked under her arm like a familiar friend, this leather armadillo purse like nothing I'd ever seen. "My God," I said, "Where did you get that purse?" Vanessa swished that beautiful hair and said, "His name is Leonard. Would you like to hold him?"

From that moment on, I knew I had to have Leonard. It took a lot of talking and a brilliant hand of poker to convince Vanessa of the same thing.

Leonard is genuine armadillo (don't insult him by thinking otherwise) with a striking stylized art deco clasp with hearts. The mirror on the inside has been neatly stitched and is without blemish. Leonard's innards are lined and clean with lots of room to store your flask and deck of cards. Leonard has ruby red eyes--and do note his lovable face. His leather is in fine shape. The patina is gorgeous. It doesn't get this way overnight. The only flaw, other than Leonard's (charming, to me) tendency to yell in an Irish brogue, is his missing shoulder strap. Leonard likes to be flexible, though. Buy him a new strap, use a fabric belt, use a leather belt. Set him on a shelf so he can lord it over everyone (he's a touch overbearing). Or tuck him under your arm like Vanessa did. People will notice Leonard, no matter what.
