This necklace was made through several stages and many hours labour. Firstly I cut strips 5 different fabrics which I then cut into small lengths. These were all machine sewn together. I used this new strip of the 5 fabrics to make to base piece of the large flowers. This stitching can be seen in the close up photos.
I then made smaller rosettes to form the middle of these flowers and even smaller rosettes to sit closer to the neck. All of these flower/ rosettes have beads hand sewn into the center in gold, pink and clear. The beads and sewn individually or in pairs and vary in shape including tear drop, large and small balls and seed beads.
There are 3 large rosettes through the center of the necklace and two smaller ones on either side hand sewn onto a cord 47"( 119cm) long . The bead work is also on the cord between the flowers. The cord is made from 4 of the fabrics, twisted and machine sewn into place. I have left them unsewn at the ends to form a small tassel. As the cord is not joined together, you can tie your necklace to suit your length preference.
The fabrics are in soft and deeper pinks, cream, white and a very pale silver gold. Some of them have a slight sheen and all are cut with some slight fraying on the edges. This fraying gives great texture and interesting shabby chic finish.
I was thrilled with the result of all this work and know it will make a striking and eye catching accessory to wear both casually and for high fashion evening wear.
I have made two others; corals and cream, turquoise and gold
Designed and knitted in the clean, fresh, coastal air of Perth, there are no cigarette, perfume or pet odors.
