*** SALE *** Regular price $30

A little piece of the beach, for you to enjoy at home. This orange ochre star is firmly attached to its rock, clinging tightly to it while awaiting the incoming tide. Small barnacles sit with it, scattered along the surface of the rock amongst vibrant bits of seaweed.

This piece measure 4" long, standing just under 2.5" high. It is carefully handstitched from repurposed denim and hand dyed linen, and stuffed with locally sourced wool fleece.

Most of the time when we see sea stars, they seem like quiet characters, nestled amongst the rocks. In reality though, they can be wily predators moving surprising quickly on their clusters of tube feet to feed on a variety of shellfish. Ochre stars are a common sighting along rocky shorelines and in tidal pools all along the coast. Recent studies show their colouring (mainly orange, brown or purple) is related to their diet - on the outer coasts their main diet is mussels, which seems to give them a predominantly orange or ochre colour, and on the sheltered inner coastlines of Georgia Strait and Puget Sound they eat barnacles and are usually purple.

All items are made and stored in a smoke free / pet free home.
