In my search for different silks and silk patterns , I discovered Japanese Obi's. An Obi is a sash worn with traditional Japanese Kimonos. A women's Obi ( sash) is usually 12" wide and can be as long as 4 meters. They can be more elaborate than the Kimono it is worn with. They are wrapped and tied in different ways depending on the occasion.

The silk from these obi's is only about 12" wide but very long. The design is embroidered or woven into the fabric. They are folded in half to be worn that is why this one has a bit of a crease in the center.

The obi used for this pillow cover is from the 70's. I have hand washed and pressed it after taking it apart. I have used the sections with the designs, as some of it was damaged or just plain, without design.

The sides are of a coordinating mint green silk dupione to make it an 18" square. The back is also of the same mint green and an envelope closure ( not my usual invisible zipper). I have lined the front of the pillow.
The Obi silk itself is soft and aged but this adds to the beauty of it.

Thank you for stopping by.
