These were commonly used for feeding ill people in days gone by - and perhaps even now by some of the older generations. Indeed they remain very practical.

This little object is actually called a Canard de Malade. Duck for the ill. It takes its name from its most common form, the silhouette of a duck.

A lovely very old piece.
