Item details

Vintage from the 1980s

Handmade

My grandmother, Besse Meador, made this happy clown doll and his Teddy Bear back in the 1980s, with my mom's help. Mr. Clown can stand on his own, but he’s pretty wobbly. Teddy Bear is caught up in the clown’s hands, but he can get away to play with other dolls if he wants to.

Mr. Clown is almost 12” tall. Teddy Bear is 6” tall. They were created to be played with, but that was 30 odd years ago; they may not withstand rough play now. The clown’s head, feet and hands are plastic, but the rest of the doll was handmade. Grandma stitched a little maker’s tag on the clown’s ankle.

This vintage doll is a collectible, and is not intended for small children.

Mom and Grandma made dolls many years ago (around 1982 -1987) and took them to craft shows. They got packed away after my brother was in a car accident (he’s doing fine now). After the family moved, they got packed even deeper. But Mom was digging through boxes lately and rediscovered them. When she heard about Etsy, she asked me to add them to my shop.

Thank you for visiting our shop!
