This is probably a cotton shrub native to tropical South America. A vintage facsimile of a drawing of a plant from Maranhao (Brazil) identified by the author as Manoiu. The original illustration, by Frei Cristovao de Lisboa, was drawn in the 17th century (1625-1631) while he was living in Brazil.

The originals, drawings in pencil and covered in ink, are in an Archive in Lisboa, Portugal. In 1967 the archive published a book with a study of the work of Frei Cristovao. This vintage print is from that1967 book.

The original are drawings in pencil and covered in ink.

Size: approx. 9" by 12"

In excellent condition. It is printed on thick paper. The uneven borders and darker areas that you see are in the original drawing that is reproduced in this vintage facsimile.

This is the actual page from a 1967 book, not a reproduction.
