This is a fabric journal is for lovers of old textiles; I make them with favorite pieces of vintage and antique linens, old lace and crochet, and new, old stock trims and laces that I salvage. I carefully alternate textures and pieces, layering the fabrics and accenting the best bits. I sew the bases of the pages together on my sewing machine, but all the embellishing is done by hand. I create little pockets here and there inside the book, so you may slip photos, slips, ephemera, and anything else you'd like to save, inside them. The result is a book that is wonderful to the touch and ready to be filled with your special keepsakes. I hope it inspires you.

For a complete look at this book, and every page and detail, please visit my blog post about it here:

The front cover is made from a piece of cotton tablecloth with flowers embossed in it; it is decorated with vintage trims and ribbon.

For the second and third pages, I mixed fabrics, bits of table runner, wide lace, trim, and all kinds of hand embroidered pieces; on the left page, a tiny cocktail napkin with embroidered pansy made into a pocket.

For the fourth and fifth pages, a mix of crochet and machine laces, and, on the right side, more lace trim and vintage millinery flowers on a guest towel that is a lovely shade of blue, with cream piping and an embroidered flower.

For the sixth and seventh pages, I used a brick red, rosy fabric on the left; it is quilt fabric that is the only piece in this little book that is not vintage; I used blue teal vintage seam binding to decorate it, as well as wonderful wide vintage eyelet trim! I used some unusual embroidered trim on the right looks like little horses, or dogs, marching across it -- pink on blue. Above it is a vintage cotton doily, with crochet lace all around the page.

The eighth page is a vintage green print fabric overlaid with a handmade blue crochet doily, and accented with white vintage buttons; and the ninth page is white cotton embroidered fabric that I've pieced into a slide-in pocket and trimmed with white vintage loop trim.

The back cover is blue and white tablecloth fabric decorated with a wonderful old doily.

The book measures ~9.5" x 10. The book consists of leaves, between which you can store your love letters, photos, or clippings. If you'd prefer, you can use it to sew in and store your precious buttons, hankies or bits of lace. 'Lots of possibilities! Please let me know what you do with it!

This is a handmade original, and the only one of its kind. Because I've used old linens and bits of it have raw edges and uneven stitching, it's intended for lovers of the shabby and tattered!

Leaves and Lace, (formerly Twice Shy Restored), is the sister store of Indulge Your Shelf; feel free to pop by there for my hand selected, vintage and antique finds:
