This is a fantastic and rare gold plated flying insect brooch made by Nettie Rosenstein in the 1940s. Nettie Rosenstein pieces from this era are quite scarce and are highly sought after by collectors. Rosenstein pieces are incredibly well made with special attention paid to detail and finish.

This brooch has wings that are "en tremblant", set on tiny springs that tremble when it moves, giving it the uncanny appearance of being alive.

The gold plated body has wonderful detailing and texture. The head is adorned with glass cabochons which resemble Persian turquoise. Between these cabochons are tiny bezel set clear rhinestones. The insect has one dark and one light eye. The wings are set on tiny gold tone springs and are covered with clear bright pave rhinestones.

The underside of the insect is beautifully detailed as well and features a pin back with a rolling "C" clasp.

The brooch is signed "Nettie Rosenstein" in script on the reverse.
