*** Until September 15th this weapon is on sale half price!!!! ***

As a die hard Browncoat myself I've wanted to make my own version of the Reaver Axe that Summer uses during the death dance in the final fight scene of the movie Serenity and I finally got around to it.

I hand forged this item in two pieces starting with the blade end which I formed from a recycled piece of thick gauge mild steel. Once I had the form to my liking I hammered out the edges and then sharpened both blades razor sharp. For good measure I tempered both blade ends for strength and sharpness.

As for the handle I do not like working with tangs and wooden handles so I found an old piece of bolt rod and beat out the shape of the handle myself until I got it to fit comfortably in my hand while retaining the same likeness and size to that of the original weapon from the movie.

Once both pieces were to my liking I forge welded the two together and hammered it all out. To finish up I polished the entire axe and then treated it with wax/oil to give it a great look as well. I wanted to add an industrial look to this axe so I punched a bunch of holes throughout the axe and put in some recycled brass and copper bolts and washers before adding some copper wire wrapping. I realize this is not following the true replica of the weapon used in the movie but as I said, I wanted to make a version of the axe which suited my tastes and I like it better this way!

As you can see from the pictures I did not leave this weapon in a high polished state as I wanted to get some unique hammer marks in it and make it look like it has gone through a battle with some reavers. I like when weapons have a "used" look to them instead of always looking so polished and dare I say it, shiny...

Thanks for looking and feel free to check out my other hand forged items.
