This is a very early Kenneth Lane star brooch made at the beginning of the 1960s. The hand wrought metal and unique design lend a modernist feel to this piece.

This brooch is made of a brassy metal that is very common with early Kenneth Lane pieces. The metal has been forged into a star or starfish shape that is quite three dimensional. The metal is treated with ridges and fine lined detailing that give the starfish a realistic appearance. The star shape is prong set with both round and oval shaped white glass cabochons surrounded by bezel set small glass cabochons.

The brooch features a pin back with a rolling "C" clasp and is signed "K.J.L." in an oval cartouche on the reverse.
