Using Japanese style cotton patchwork fabrics, I cut sqares and then appliqed circles of contrasting or complementary fabric on top. The circles were made by stitching the circle of fabric to a machine embroidery backing fabric and then turning and pressing to give a near perfect circle. The blocks were stitched together to form a rectangle and then a first border of dark navy blue applied to separate the second border of the same blocks. The quilt is tied at the corners of the blocks and tied with a bow in the centre of the circles using a dark blue pure cotton crochet thread. The batting is silk and the back is a bright red cotton patchwork backing fabric. You can see the double stitch from the ties on the back of the quilt. The binding is narrow, using the same dark blue fabric as the first border.

Because it is sparsely tied rather than densely quilted, this quilt should only be gently hand washed. The ties are double knotted but may come undone with rough handling. It is careful adult quilt rather than a chuck it to the kids to use to make cubbys quilt.
