Vintage Sterling and 14kt Gold Enamel Flower Brooch Symmetalic Signed Rare Design Art Nouveau Deco Style Collectible Exotic Forest to Runway. This is one of the loveliest brooches I have ever seen. It dates from the 1930's and 40's. This piece is a treasure and I have not seen another like it. I have seen this flower and the Art Nouveau and Deco influence in other Symmetalic designs, but this bar brooch is an exceptional and rare vintage piece.

It is signed "Symmetalic Sterling + 14k" this piece measures just over 2 1/2" long and just under 1" wide at the flower's widest point. It can be worn horizontal or vertical with a rolling pin clasp on the back. It is in excellent condition. No wear to the gold or silver. Normal patina developing on the sterling silver. The gorgeous enamel work on the flower petals is exquisite and in excellent condition.

Vermeil is solid gold metal made by repeated layering of a base of solid sterling silver with gold that is at least 10 karat, in this case 14KT gold, a minimum of 2.5 microns thick (100/1,000,000 inch). This is far greater layers then "gold plated." It is not legal to use the term "Vermeil" unless the gold is this thick.

Who is "symmetalic Sterling" company? Symmetalic is the registered trademark of W. E. Richards company, founded about 1900 in Attleboro, Mass. and they are still in business, but the "symmetalic" hallmark was first used in 1936 and seems to have ended in the 1940's . Symmetalic jewelry is mostly made of sterling silver, however, many items were Vermeil 14kt gold, (Vermeil) as this piece is, and their designs reflect an Edwardian and Art Deco influence. Symmetalic is hard to find and highly collectible and as noted no longer produced by this company. W.E. Richards pieces since the 40's usually have the hallmark "wRe."

This will arrive boxed with sheer organza ribbon and ready to give or keep. Thank you for visiting my shop on Etsy.
