One of the great classics among manual-focus prime lenses, included on several all-time "fast fifty" ten-best lists. If you're reading this, then you probably know a fair amount about the "M" 50/1.4 already. Magnificent build quality. Superlative color, contrast and sharpness, enhanced by the legendary Pentax "SMC" coatings. An overall feeling of quality in every detail, rivaled, nowadays, only by the most expensive current-production manual-focus lenses. A combination of performance and tactile delight that makes modern kit zooms feel like cheap plastic playthings.

If you've never used a lens like this, the experience will be revelatory. At larger apertures, the control over depth-of-field is stunningly precise (and make no mistake, it will take some practice to achieve your best results). No less remarkable is the control over bokeh - from creamy perfection wide-open to painterly smoothness as the lens is stopped down.

This particular example is in excellent condition. The glass is excellent, without scratches. There's no fungus, fogging or cloudiness. There's some internal dust, as is common with all vintage lenses (and most new lenses), including one largish bit toward the rear elements. I'm confident that fanatical inspection with a loupe might turn up a stray coating mark somewhere, but there is nothing here that will degrade optical performance in even the most minimal way. Focus is well-damped and velvety-smooth, in the great tradition of manual-focus Pentax lenses. The aperture ring clicks decisively through its settings, with no sloppiness or "worn" feeling. The diaphragm is snappy and responsive; there is just a touch of wear (no oil!) on the blades, as one might expect from a lens of this vintage. External cosmetics are excellent as well: a few bright marks, in one or two spots, to the leading edge of the filter ring (no dents or damage) and a few pinpoints of wear elsewhere. All of that is enough to keep this lens from being graded mint, but it's still an exceptionally nice specimen. The photos, hopefully, tell the story.

The lens has been priced as a "user" item, but the reality is that it's just a notch below "collector" grade. As such, it represents an unusual opportunity.

This lens will perform beautifully on any K-mount Pentax body, digital or analog. Please note that this is an "M" lens, without the "A" setting that enables in-body control over aperture; all functions are manual and directly set on the lens itself. (The "M" lenses are widely regarded as having better build quality than their "A" successors, so this is a perfectly reasonable tradeoff.) It will also work flawlessly, in stop-down mode, on a micro-4/3 or NEW body. It may or may not be adaptable to other SLR systems; please feel free to convo with any questions.

This lens does not come with caps, but will be packed appropriately and securely for shipment.
