Here is a delightful marquetry plaque which appears to be an illustration of "The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam".

A book of verses underneath a bough
A jug of wine, a loaf of bread –- and thou,
Beside me singing in the Wilderness –-

from the Edward Fitzgerald translation.

The book of verses is not evident, I am taking the mandolin, for accompanying the singer, as a replacement. This charming piece of vaguely Persian decor (I do not know where it actually originated) is 12 inches long, 5 1/2 inches high, and about 1/2 in thick. Even the hanger is charming (see last photo). Some vintage wear to surface. This would be nice, I think, for a literature or music enthusiast's environment.
