Hanabi is the Japanese word for fireworks. The translation is "fire flower". The tutorial explains clearly how to make the long bead on the left in the picture. Although this tutorial does not go into detail explaining how to make the other beads in the photos, I do offer suggestions for ways to experiment with the techniques to achieve results as you see in the other beads shown. With the techniques that you'll learn, you'll be able to take the basic ideas and expand them to fit your own palette and style. The tutorial is 25 pages long and explains in detail how I make and apply a variety of canes to achieve the beautiful colors and effects in the beads posted here. These beads are made only with basic colors from Effetre. I use silver leaf to essentially create my own silver glass, but I don't use any silver glass that you have to buy.

This tutorial is intended for the person who has experience working with soft glass on a propane/oxygen torch. Since moving to Portland, I've been using an oxygen concentrator. I don’t have experience with Hothead torches, so I can’t say if a Hothead would be adequate.
