Vajrasattva is the "paterfamilias", the head of the 5 Buddha families, leader and king, culmination of all of their attributes. His specific role is to help one keep the promise "to take the high road", say the right thing, and take a positive approach to a situation. Ultimately, the culmination of his sadhva leads the practitioner to see that all along, they had the ability forperfection of action and thought within. They have always had this, it is the intrinsic nature of the human soul, but something that the world distracts us from knowing.
