Ahhh, the late 1970's. Jimmy Carter, lines for gas, Star Wars, iphone docks. Wait, what?

This docking station for your ipod or iphone is built from a converted General Electric Power Sound portable 8 Track Player, manufactured around 1978. When this guy came our way, we were all like Dude, that's so groovy. Then we tore it apart.

To create this dock, we started by removing all the old electronics and 8 track player. In their place, we installed a nice 10 watt amplifier that drives the original speaker. The sound is fantastic, lots of low end and a nice volume range for such a small unit.

A universal Apple docking tray was installed in the top and wired to charge your ipod or iphone, whether your speaker is on or off. A single 110v chord exits the back to power the whole unit.

Volume is controlled by a new chrome knob, along with a new push button on/off switch for the amp and speaker. We've added an orange LED power indicator and a blue LED inside the cabinet that emits a nice glow from the smaller speaker grill. For fun, we wired up the original track indicator to light up track 1 when power is on.

Cosmetically, all we did was clean it up. The case was in excellent condition for its age, with only a few very minor blemishes. The original carrying strap is in great shape, too.

So, dig out those bellbottoms and tease your 'fro, because you're going to want to boogie down with this thing.
