This is Wonderstone cabochon.
I have taken these in natural outdoor light, either shaded or overcast sky and most are taken against a white or grey background. This gives the most accurate light color rendition that I can manage.
This stone comes from a deposit in Utah. I have heard it referred to as a rhyolite but am not sure of this. I like this stone for its many eye type formations, as is shown in this piece. Without these patterns I don't find much interest in this stone. This piece is a nice mixture of brown outside border with a cream base to outline the darker black eye.
It is difficult to get a high polish because of the lack of silica.
I try to find different type of eye stones for their "all seeing eye" protection qualities.
