“It’s just an old wooden tool tote for heaven’s sake. Rosie don’t you get carried away with it now.” Angie said in a condescending tone.

“But...it’s, it’s soo beautiful Angie, just look at it,” Rosie replied as she lifted the box up and looked carefully at it’s construction. “Somebody hand-made this box, it’s a piece of art, an absolute piece of art.”

“It’s an old wood box, isn’t there something else here you’d like to buy?” Angie swept her hands widely in a futile attempt to get Rosie to look around at all the other items that surrounded them at the annual Thompson County Fall Flea Market.

It was to no avail of course because Rosie was holding the old tool box close to her chest as she began to rattle off all the things she could do with the box. “I can put old photos in it...use it for displaying nicknacks ...oh, wouldn’t it look great filled with candles or old mason jars...” She went on and on with the possibilities and Angie knew her whimsical friend was lost to the box.

We acquired this primitive wood tool box from an estate sale and we were able to talk to the elderly lady who owned it. She told us that her father used to use this tote to carry around his tools so we're guessing it is 75 to 100 years old. This box has a wonderful patina from years of use. The handle is smooth worn from hands. The several layers of paint have all but worn off revealing gray-weathered wood below. The box is 16" X 10" with 2.75" sides; with the handle it is 6" tall. The possibilities are endless for this box. It has simple earthy beauty displayed by itself but would look great displaying favorite items or maybe use it as a remote control caddy.

As mentioned this old box is worn and distressed looking but it is still a sturdy and solid piece. There are some splits in the wood, some nail holes and some exposed nails. The paint is mostly worn off revealing the wood below.
