This lovely and Rare Antique Turquoise Bar Pin is sterling silver (acid tested) vermeil, accented with Pavé Persian Turquoise gemstones.

The word TURQUOISE was first used dating from the 16thC and was derived from the Old French word for Turkish. The mineral was first brought to Europe from the mines of Turkey and Iran, then known as Persia. Turquoise was used on mosques and fine palaces throughout the East and was called "the stone of heaven" or "HEAVEN ON EARTH"

During the early and late Victorian periods the use of turquoise in fine jewelry was highly desired and very popular. With 48 finely sculpted and carved smooth cabochons of genuine, untreated, natural Persian turquoise you can rest assured this stunning one-of-a-kind piece took many days if not weeks to design & magnificently create. The settings are so close together that only the tiny metal prongs are exposed in between. Under a loop it looks like extremely tiny hand-crafted silver burrs were used to hold the lovely stones in place. They are fine quality.

Occasionally on pieces of this period there may be a very tiny stamped marking that looks like it reads "800" for sterling. However, this piece is unmarked.

This Magnificent antique Turquoise Sterling Silver Bar pin is in fine condition and is even prettier in person!
