Antique lacemaker's samples book c. 1912 French

Sample books of this type were produced by apprentice lacemakers to demonstrate their skills and by self-employed lacemakers to present to potential clients
This volume comprises approx. 15 sheets of blue paper which have been bound within a re-used directory of some type. It appears to be the cover of an early telephone directory, dated 1912. The lace samples have been loosely attached to the paper with large stitches

It contains samples of crochet work in the main - though some may feature other types of lace - using white/ecru crochet cotton for the most part (a very small number of samples are in other colours such as red and black). There are also 3 pages of woollen crochet lace at the back of the book though, being wool, these were susceptile to insect damage and are HEAVILY moth eaten (one has completely disintegrated). None the less, they are interesting historical samples - in terms of the stitches used and also the colours of the yarns (e.g. two are turquoise, one is yellow). Further photos of the damaged areas can be sent, if required

Dimensions approx.

A fascinating little piece of French social history. A rare and highly collectible item

In reasonably good condition, considering its age. Please examine the photos (more photos can be sent, if required). The cover is quite marked/scuffed with some loss of text. The cover linings are also torn at the edges (where they were crudely removed from the original directory. The blue pages are faded around the edges. The cotton lace samples are sturdy though most are a little discoloured and some are heavily stained. The wool lace samples at the end of the book are *heavily* moth eaten though they are still an interesting 'relic'.
