Thank you for stopping by my shop.
I turned this little bowl/vase on my lathe from a piece of Box Elder that was being discarded. The unique grain came alive as I turned it so I decided to mimic the pattern of the grain by carving the top edge to match. The wood is very light in weight but very strong. There are shadows and distinctive markings throughout the grain. The piece stands approximately 7 1/4 inches tall by 5 1/2 inches in diameter at the top and approximately 3 1/2 inches in diameter at the bottom. I turned it to less than ¼ inch in thickness. It has been finished with a cellulose sealer followed by several coats of a water based Polyacrylic which is very durable and has a rich, deep luster.
This piece would make a nice vase for dried flowers or simply a beautiful piece of sculpture to add to your home décor.
