This is an unusually nice piece of crewelwork with its stylized floral design, soft colors, and expert needlework. The stylized floral design is done in soft shades of blues, pinks, and greens. The stitches used in crewelwork create a textured and colorful effect. Unlike silk or cotton embroidery threads, crewel wool is thicker and creates a raised, dimensional appearance.

This piece measures 8 3/4" by 8 3/4" including the frame. The crewelwork itself measures 5 1/2" by 5 1/2". The wooden frame is 1 1/2" deep, and is finished with white antiquing and has a gold border at the inner edge.

The piece is in good condition, with a finished paper backing signed by the needleworker, Eleanor Manning, in 1979. The frame shows some wear, adding to its vintage appeal.

This would be a nice addition to a collection of vintage needlework, or would look right at home in a shabby chic interior.
