This 36" x 36" is an original oil on canvas by Michael Pfleghaar. This iconic mid-century modern home in Palm Springs, CA was designed by Richard Neutra in the late 1940's. I fell in love with these homes when I visited for the first time many years back. The way the architecture and landscape blend together harmoniously has always fascinated me. My interest is part documentation and part design. I want to design the compositions as carefully as the architects designed the homes and landscapes surrounding them.

This canvas is stretched on 2" stretcher bars and painted black so it needs no framing. Wired and ready to hang.

More about the house from Arch Daily:

One of the most important architects of the 20th Century, yet often overlooked, Richard Neutra has been on the forefront of modern residential architecture. After moving to the United States from Vienna, Austria in 1923, Neutra worked with Frank Lloyd Wright and Rudolf Schindler until 1930 when he started his own practice. One of Neutra’s several iconic projects is the Kaufmann House in Palm Springs, California. Completed between 1946-1947, the Kaufmann House was a vacation home for Edgar J. Kaufmann Sr. and his family to escape the harsh winters of the northeast.

Michael Pfleghaar makes his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is best known for his colorful oil pastel drawings and oil paintings. His style is expressive and exaggerated, dealing with subjects ranging from still life, interiors, and landscapes to figurative images. His interpretations of interior spaces, furniture, and objects often portray very human characteristics in their movement, shape, and postures. Pfleghaar is extremely conscious of how objects relate, choosing to create “visual conversations” through how he positions them in the same composition.

Michael has his MFA in Visual Arts at the Art Institute of Boston. He is a full-time artist represented by D Studio of Palm Springs, CA and The Nines Gallery in Holland, MI. His work in numerous private and public collections including: the Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, the Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Valley State University, Steelcase Inc. and Herman Miller.
