This handmade votive relief statue of the form of Nefertem is hand crafted of premium polymer clay, hand detailed and painted with acrylic and venetian gold paints. For this statue, Nefertem is presented wearing a Lotus Crown and holding a sacred Lotus Blossom.

Nefertem possibly meant "beautiful one who closes" or "one who does not close"; also spelled Nefertum or Nefer-temu was, in Egyptian mythology, originally a lotus flower at the creation of the world, who had arisen from the primal waters.

Nefertem represented both the first sunlight and the delightful smell of the Egyptian blue lotus flower, having arisen from the primal waters within an Egyptian blue water-lily.

Some of the titles of Nefertem were "He Who is Beautiful" and "Water-Lily of the Sun"

Son of Ptah and Sekhmet of Mennefer, Nefertem is portrayed as a beautiful young man with a lotus flower on His head or holding lotuses. An original creation story of the city of An (G/R Heliopolis) relates that on the day of creation, a beautiful child emerged from the center of a huge lotus flower floating on the surface of the Nun; Nefertem's name, which honors Tem, the Self-Created One of An, probably hearkens to this myth.

Nefertem is patron of both the healing arts and the arts of beautification, though in later periods his newly-introduced younger brother, Imhotep, would assume the healing aspects. Nefertem is usually given attributes associated with both the flowers He carries (both their beauty and their narcotic qualities, which were used for medical anesthesia) and their scent, and is especially invoked in the purifications and blessings of offerings involving flowers and perfumes. Very infrequently, and possibly in reflection of the three Names often attributed as being His mother (Sekhmet, Wadjet and Bast), Nefertem is depicted with the head of a lion.

Many of my statues are styled after the traditional votive statues of Ancient Egypt. That is to say, they are not the gilded golden idols of kings and queens but the statues of the worship of everyday life. Prayer and offering statues. Home altars and handmade with humble simplicity.

The Nefertem Votive Statue measures 8 inches tall by 2 inches wide 3 in. deep.

Frequently asked questions about shadowofthesphinx

My pieces are created using polymer clay and metallic pigments with a reactive patina. Depending on the individual design, they can be fragile. Amulets should be worn with care. If the amulet gets wet or lays against your skin, the patina will likely turn darker in coloring as it reacts to oils or water. Over time, the patina will darken slightly with handling or exposure to dampness or moisture. Smoke from smudging or a blessing ritual will not harm them.

The knotted cords on the amulets are double slip knots to allow for sizing by slinging the knots along the cord. Should they loosen or come undone they are easily tied again. Convo me if you need instructions on doing so! :)
I accept custom requests for any type of altar piece or statue/icon/amulet. I do not take on every request. Sometimes I am unable to create the requested piece due to any number of reasons pertaining to my own ability to sculpt a certain figure or form. Therefore, accepting a commission or order does not guarantee I will be able to create it. This is why I do not take downpayments on these requests. IF I can create your piece, and you are totally happy with it, then I create the listing for payment at that time. I have a steady stream of work that is deadline based so custom pieces, while I will always try to complete them in the stated time frame, that time frame is subject to delays. :)
I make most of my statues in a variety of sizes ranging from mini 2" / 5cm up to 10" / 25cm in height. Pricing is not as easy to scale. Since it takes the same amount of time to sculpt a 9 inch figure as it does a 6 inch figure, there is only a small difference in the prices. When we get under 5 inches, ratio becomes harder to impart. As statues get larger, they require more clay and detailing time which adds to the expense. And, of course, shipping costs and customs fees on your end may increase along with that as well.
All my pieces are packaged with every consideration to safe travels. That's said, breakage does occur on statues rarely but every now and then. I guarantee all shipping and will gladly repair or replace broken items.

OUTSDE THE US -please be aware of your country/regions import tariffs and taxes. There is a customs/import charge for merchandise and sometimes a charge for handling/delivery of a package to you in many countries.
