This beautiful 1970s vintage hand crafted coin purse is made of prized HImeji white leather. It contains an old five yen coin, which is considered a lucky charm.

Himeji leather is lightweight, yet durable and flexible, and was originally used as a material for armor and harness during the Samurai Period. In more recent times craftsmen have produced stationery, purses, wallets and other everyday objects. The whiteness of the leather has served as a canvas for artisans, giving them freedom to embellish the leather with many colors and patterns. Here you can see an excellent example of this artistry. The number of craftsmen making this kind of work is on the decline, and this is an excellent opportunity to buy a genuine high quality hand crafted Himeji leather item.

The purse is in excellent condition, and has probably never been used.
