ONE button. This is a one of a kind fused glass button. This button is shaped like a heart. The base layer is white art glass. The top layer is a red art glass. This is a true one of a kind art button.

The button measues approximately 1 3/8" high by 1" wide at its widest part or 3.5" cm high by 2.5 cm wide at its widest part. It is plain white on the back and has two holes drilled in it so it can be added to your handmade item. See the last picture for a view of the back of the button.

How it is made:

First I select the art glass I will use. I start with flat sheets of art glass and cut to the desired shape. In this case the individual pieces that make up the heart shape are individually cut out. I layer the glass in the kiln and fuse the glass together. The kiln temperature is a approximately 1500 degrees farenheit or 815 degrees celcius. Once the glass has reached the proper temperature I let it cool very slowly over night. This is called annealing the glass and it makes it very strong. Once the glass has cooled I remove it from the kiln, clean it off and drill holes in it with a diamond drill bit. (Yes the drill bit has real diamonds in it.) Now it is ready to be used in your handmade creation.

About the Glass I use:

The glass I use is art glass. I use various brands but each of my handmade pieces uses art glass of the same COE (coefficiency of expansion). This is just a technical way of saying the glass expands and contracts at the same rate as it is heated and cooled in the kiln. This is very important so that the glass doesn't break apart later. If the glass isn't compatible it could look fine when it is removed from the kiln but could break hours, days or even years later for no apparent reason. It is very important to use glass that is the same COE so it is durable and lasts a long time.

Other important stuff:

Yes you may use my items in items in your Etsy shop or elsewhere. I love seeing my items in your handmade creations.

As always, with small items such as my jewelry and buttons, please keep away from young children under three as they are a choking hazzard.
