Vintage 1930s needlework / sewing / knitting / crochet magazine

The Needlewoman
June 1936 Vol. 14 No. 166
Published in the UK
40 pages (including cover)
Large format (approx. 9" x 12" or 22.5 cm x 30.5 cm)
Unfortunately, the free embroidery transfer referred to the front cover has NOT survived

A fabulous needlecraft magazine dating from 1936 and brimming with highly inspirational knitting and needlework projects. There are a wide variety of embroidery projects (though please see note below). The knitting patterns comprise a lady's jacket / cardigan (see photos), the lady's swim suit / bathing dress featured on the cover and a little girl's beach/bathing suit. There are also instructions for crocheted table mats as well as a wealth of fascinating period advertisements (especially for needlecraft materials, patterns etc)

** Please note: most of the embroidery and sewing projects required transfers/patterns which were NOT included in the magazine and had to be purchase separately. However, the guidance notes/diagrams are clear in most cases and it should be possible for the experienced needleworker to replicate the designs without the use of transfers. At the very least, this volume will provide tons of inspiration and practical guidance for creating your own vintage-inspired projects

Full instructions are provided for the knitting and crochet projects - although please note that this is a UK publication and that adjustments may need to be made by international buyers (e.g. needle/pin sizes and crochet abbreviations). As was customary at the time, the instructions for the knitted garments are provided in ONE size only - the jacket/cardigan will fit a 32"-34" bust, the swimsuit a 34" bust

This magazine is in reasonably good condition, the main flaw being that the staples have rusted/disintegrated and the pages are all loose as a result (there is also rust staining on each page where the staples were positioned). Otherwise good. Moderate creasing and scuffing. General age discolouration. However, internal pages are good with no major flaws. Rust staining as mentioned but no tears or annotations

Any questions, please feel free to ask
