My husband and I are such science geeks. Not only has science education been our bread and butter for most of our lives, but it has also been a passion and fascination! As the field of science becomes more up to date, older educational models become passe. If we're lucky, we end up in the right place at the right time, and often find ourselves on the receiving end of outdated equipment.

Such was the case with this "molecular model." The wooden balls are certainly meant to represent atoms, and we all know molecules are made of atoms. But, this molecule is just a product of my own imagination. In reality, it does not conform to any type of "known" element. In fact, the future owner of this model can immediately take it apart, and recreate a new molecule to suit their style! The connectors are all made of stainless steel springs; some are singular, some are double, for creating single and double bonds between the atoms.

[[***All of my molecule models are made by me, out of vintage materials***]]

If the buyer should decide to change the configuration of the atoms, the following information is very important!! To connect one atom to another, twist the spring COUNTERCLOCKWISE. If you don't twist them in this direction, they won't stay together and the molecule will act really stupid; like falling over or coming apart! Make sure they are twisted tightly; by doing this you can also realign the atoms of your molecule to achieve better balance. Of course, in order to disconnect an atom from another, simply twist the spring CLOCKWISE.

This collection of atoms is smaller than most. They were meant to used by Organic Chemistry students to create molecular models, as opposed to the instructor using them as demonstration models. Atoms from demo models are at least an inch or more in diameter, making a molecule that can easily be seen from the back of the lab. These student models are much smaller, with each atom measuring only 3/4 of an inch in diameter.

The total space this model takes up is only 6 1/4" X 5 1/2" X 3 3/4". Perfect size for gracing a bookshelf of old science texts, hanging as a colorful window ornament, or simply adorning your desk.

I have quite a few more of these old beauties that I will be adding to my shop in the months to come, so check back often! And, if you have more questions that I can answer, please feel free to contact me! Thanks for stopping by..
