About two years ago I was given two large boxes of white t-shirts by a friend of mine. They had been overstock from a fund raising effort. It has taken those two years to collect enough non-white t-shirts to balance all that white. The result is a huge batch of rainbow hit or miss patterned rugs.

They remind me of the rugs we took to kindergarten when I was a child and I have included a sweet picture of my husband when he was just little tyke on his way to Kindergarten, little realizing how much he would be involved in rugs in his later life.

These rugs are heavy and soft and very colorful. Each one is subtly unique, although they all compliment each other very well.

This stunning rag rug runner is woven of recycled cotton and cotton blend t-shirts. It is woven in a traditional weft pattern called Hit or Miss.

Hit or Miss is a very traditional technique method of recycling the smallest of leftover pieces of fabric. Because of this it is very labor intensive. I usually fillet 50 or 60 shirts to get a nice big batch of colors. Those are then cut into strips. I hate waste so some of the pieces are as short as four inches. This means I am able to do only one or two hit or miss batches per year. I love the festival of colors and the honoring of traditional techniques.

The weft is a rainbow of two wide stripes in Turquoise,Purple, Mango, Sage and Yellow This is a rug that will brighten any spot.

Warp is done in stripes of turquoise and black alternating with natural

It is a polyester warp

The size of this rug is 23.5" x 62"

Length of rug does not include the length of hand knotted fringe

My greatest joy in weaving comes in color exploration. Weaving rag rugs allows me to combine colors in ways that I might not have thought of if the "rags" were not in front of me, daring me to put them together.

All my rugs are woven on a large vintage "Weaver's Delight" rug loom built in 1942. The whole house shakes when I am weaving. The designs are my own and I have won several awards for my work. I use all recycled materials in my wefts and either cotton or polyester warp. My rugs are machine washable in warm or cool. It is best to line dry. Give the fringe a good shake to straighten it and hang over a clothesline or rail. With a bit of care this rug will last a good many years.

Shipping is included on this rug when sent within the contiguous United States. I am happy to ship elsewhere. Please contact me before purchase so that I may provide you with an accurate rate.
