Sealed with Love - Fine Silver Wax Seal Pendant Necklace. 18 inch Sterling Silver Rollo Chain. Hand Made Wax Seal Jewelry. Large. Made to Order

You may ask, "What's love got to do with it?" It's just a piece of jewelry. Or maybe you think, "Love stinks." Who wants to be reminded of that? Well, maybe, just maybe, "Love is all you need." We'd like to think so. And "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one your with" and give them this necklace as nice little reminder about how you feel about them or perhaps yourself. Also a wonderful gift for you, because you're... gee whiz... you are special and... gosh darn it, people like you.

10. Hippies.. they love LOVE.
9. Still Hippies... they are really big into this whole love thing
8. Moms... who else are the most loving people in the world? (besides Hippies)
7. Grandmothers... (see number 8 above)
6. Our soldiers abroad... no kidding this time. Let them know they are loved and appreciated.
5. Jane Austen fanatics (most hopeless romantics on the planet and the fancy script font on this looks all kinds of romantical)
4. Your child
3. Your other child
2. Your best friend or spouse (they probably deserve a medal, this will do)
1. You… cos you are AWESOME!

The History of Wax Seals

The use of seals can be traced back to the world’s earliest civilizations.

The use of wax seals did not begin until the Middle Ages. Kings, clergy, and royal courts used them in issuing official decrees and authenticating documents. By the 13th century, the use of wax seals spread from aristocrats to the ordinary freemen. Each had their own seal, and in a time when many were illiterate, they were used in place of a signature to authenticate legal or personal documents.

The wax was pressed with a hand held stamp or with a signet ring bearing the owner’s crest or coat of arms. In fact, the kissing of a signet ring of a noble became customary as a sign of respect and allegiance. Later, monograms and novelty stamps featuring popular motifs (such as Aesop’s Fables) were used for personal correspondence and very in vogue during the Victorian era.

Though not of wax, collecting seals as Medallions also became fashionable for stops along the European Grand Tours of the 18th and 19th centuries, a tradition amongst the wealthy aristocracy. James Tassie, a Scottish engraver, reproduced many artistic works of antiquity in miniature, as well as portraitures of well-known people of his era and were highly collected.
