This Irmi nursery musical lamp is perfect for those nightime feedings! It will soothe your precious little one back to sleep in no time. The story behind the makers of this lamp is moving and full of inspiration. Irmi and Fred Bering escaped Germany within weeks of each other but didn’t meet until 1948, on a tennis court. Fred and Irmi married in 1951. They ran Nursery Plastics, a New York company they founded together and ran profitably until they sold it in 1971.(*) This lamp has a date of 1972, but the name is the same as when the Berings still owned the company, later on the name had changed to "Nursery Designs" instead of "Nursery Originals."

It is almost in perfect vintage condition! Everything works, the lamp, the original wiring, the musical box and the teeter totter too! There are a few scoffs and marks, but very few. The musical box works when the little kitty is wound up and it makes the children go up and down and the kitty goes round and round. The musical box was a little slow due to age, but with a little oil, it is good as new. I really can't tell the melody of the song, but Irmi lamps were usually based on nursery rhymes. There is a nursery rhyme that children used to sing while on the teeter-totter that dates all the way to 1903, "Teeter-totter, bread and water, Wash your face with dirty water." The construction of the lamp is mainly wood.

I bought this lamp from its original owner therefore I believe the lamp shade is original, but I could be wrong. It measures 15 1/2 in (38cm) tall and the base is 91/2 in (23 1/2cm) by 6 in (15cm).
