This funky dock is built from a 1960's Silvertone radio, sold by Sears. This is our second dock from this particular model, the shape and style makes it a perfect starting point for a very cool piece.

This unit started out as a clock radio and was in rough shape. We started by removing all the old defunct electronics, radio tuner and clock and replacing them with a nice 10 watt amplifier and 3.5" Pyle 2 way speaker. The sound is robust and perfect for your desk or nightstand. A universal docking tray was added and wired to charge your device whether your speaker is on or off.

Cosmetically, we wanted to go super funky, so we started by respraying the cabinet a vibrant metallic purple lacquer. Some flaws are still visible in the cabinet, but nothing serious. The front control inset was painted metallic gunmetal with white text. A new chrome volume knob and toggle switch were added along with a red LED indicator light. Inside, we added a blue LED that gives a faint glow from the station indicator window.

For the final touch, we chose a bold geometric fabric for the grill cloth. The end result is a super fresh and fun dock unlike any other.
