Old traditional vintage dress from the Swat Valley, Pakistan. Possibly the Shin people, last quarter of the 20th century? The black is gently faded, embroidery still bright and clear. Coins adorn the bodice.

In good shape: has been dry cleaned, and I periodically air my tribal textiles outdoors for a day, to freshen and let the fold lines and wrinkles relax. This is a vintage, authentic tribal textile and as such shows some signs of gentle wear but over all is a nice collectible and quite wearable. Looks great with black or denim leggings and boots.

NECKLACE IS NOT INCLUDED ( but will be listed soon)
- Over all trapezoidal shape
- Dolman sleeves
- Hand embroidered
- Some parts of construction are hand stitched, other parts machine stitched ( the kind of stitching made by manual Victorian sewing machines powered by pumping a foot pedal)
- 36" from front center collar to hem
-26" front, arm pit to arm pit (see the red fabric triangles under armpits in photo 2)Lots of room.
- 45" front hem, side seam to side seam
- 29" neck to sleeve hem on LEFT sleeve
- 35" neck to sleeve hem on RIGHT sleeve.

-One sleeve is longer than the other, see photo 1 and 4. I've noticed this in some other Swat Valley examples, including those in textile museums exhibiting dresses from this particular region, and don't know why this was done. Maybe so a woman could raise one hand to pull and hold a veil across her face, without exposing her arm? Just a guess...nobody seems to have a better explanation. When worn this isnt noticeable because of the way the neck and shoulder hang. I wasn't aware of this for quite a while, until I was measuring the sleeve lengths.

- MY MANNEQUIN IS A SIZE 4 -5 Misses. I wear a size 10 and stand 5'4", the hem hits just above my knee cap. The bodice is quite wide and the dolman sleeves allow for a wide range of sizes. A generous body can wear this comfortably - email if you want more measurements.

- The dress is in a condition commiserate with vintage tribal. Several very small rips, about 12 mm or so. Also, a recently mended tear: see photos. The mending can be removed and you could repair or leave the tear as it is.

- Dress is a mid weight cotton fabric, the embroidery threads might be silk, but I don't know enough about this to say for sure.
