Designed by Henry Dreyfuss, the Princess rotary telephone was introduced by Bell System in 1959.

This WORKING ‘Harvest Gold’ yellow Princess phone model 702BM (the M designating the modular version) is marked ‘5-66’ on the network block inside for ‘May 1966’ – its birth date.

This model followed the earlier 701B which was deemed too light, making dialing rather difficult. Subsequently, lead weight was added for the 702B.

TRIVIA: Henry Dreyfuss (1904-72) was a famous industrial designer whose products included the classic Western Electric 302 table phone, the Westclock ‘Big Ben’ alarm clock, the Princess and Trimline phones, and the Polaroid SX-70 Land camera.

CONDITION: The phone is in good working condition (voice is clear, calls out, receives calls, ringer works), and although the lamp inside looks unbroken, IT DOES NOT COME WITH THE TRANSFORMER that is required to make the dial light up. (This special transformer can be bought online at www.oldphones.com). Therefore, while this phone is functional, IT DOES NOT LIGHT UP.

The plastic housing and bakelite hand piece are in very good vintage condition, with no chips or cracks. The rotary dial spins smoothly but the clear plastic finger-wheel dial has some stress mark from age. The chocolate brown numerals and letterings are in good shape, and the old round phone number label peels off easily.

There is a lever underneath for adjusting the ringer volume.
Measures 8-1/2” long; 3-34” wide; 4-1/4” height.
Marked underneath ‘Bell System’, on handle ‘AT&T’.

This phone has been updated for modular plug so it’s ready to go! But please note that rotary phones such as this require a land line that supports pulse dialing and may not work with some digital phone services.
A grey wall cord can be supplied on request.
